MLM - The Upside Down Pyramid
Filed Under General MLM | Leave a Comment
I love it when someone approaches me to tell me that network marketing is a pyramid scheme and that I watch out before the pyramid topples. They also might tell me to beware that an MLM company will get reported to the Better Business Bureau and I’ll lose my reputation and credibility.
I just laugh inside.
One of the best parts about multi-level marketing for me is that is is exaclty the opposite of a pyramid structure. What is a pyramid? Isn’t it where there is one person at the top making all the big money and everybody else makes less and less than him as you go further down the pyramid? I would say that is what it is. So why would I want to go to work for a man whose position I know I’ll never attain? I’ll be able to see him up there, but I probably would never get there.
I love MLM because the pyramid gets flipped upside down. I start at the bottom of the pyramid all by myself. I alone decide if I’ll have success or not. There are people there to help me along the way of course, but they can’t build my business for me. I have to do it with hard work and determination. As I work, my earning potential expands upward, just like an upside down pyramid. My earnings can become whatever I want them to become, with no ceiling! This is exacly why it’s not the system that fails to work, it’s us that fail to work the system. We sometimes fail to capitalize on our limitless potential, but it’s there.
I don’t know what could be better than limitless potential. It’s one of the reasons why MLM makes so much sense to me.
Nay Sayers And Dream Stealers

What is it about the nay sayers and the dream stealers that make many of us forget why we got excited about our business in the first place? I ask myself this question all the time. One fact must be accepted - with MLM comes outside negativity.
It comes from our families even. Who hasn’t experienced a cousin, aunt, uncle, or even a closer family member ridiculing the idea of one of thier family members getting involved in MLM, or “one of those pyramid schemes” as they might call it. Could this be because we became so excited when we heard of the lifestyle we could live and it made them uncomfortable because they weren’t ready to change theirs? I think this may have a lot to do with it. When you are on top of the proverbial mountain there will always be those who throw rocks at you from below.
It is a very difficult thing to do, but we must see the nay sayers and dream stealer for what they really are so that when they open thier mouths, we will be ready. Perhaps you could put yourself in their shoes. Say you just got home from your 8 to 5 job, you fought traffic while dwelling on all the reasons why you are underappreciated, you are in a routine so you complain but never really do anything about it, and then someone calls you to tell you that they will be financially free in no time and they want you to come along for the ride. Your first instinct might be to scoff and pull them down from their high to the level that you are on.
Please don’t think that I believe all people fit this description, but I am trying to make a point. Few people really wish you the best if they don’t already have it themselves. It’s hard for us as humans to do so. Knowing this, don’t give the nay sayers and dream stealers the time of day. Recognize that they don’t want you to do something new because they won’t do it themselves, and then cast them out of your mind. They’re not worth the worries. I think we’ll all be greater for doing so, and if were lucky, we might bring some of them over to our side of the force.
Multi Level Marketing Stigma

I find it interesting the varied responses you get when you mention network marketing or mlm or multi level marketing to others.
Some people just look at you with a blank stare never having heard of these terms before. Others ask, “Is this one of those businesses like Amway?” or “How much do you get paid off of me?” Others will be curious to find out more even if they have already been involved in mlm.
My favorite group is the kind of people who immediately tell you its a scam because they have joined one before and failed, or worse, they just heard about this concept from someone else who failed and so they assume its a scam even though they have no first-hand experience.
Ever since Amway and other pioneering companies, people have been exposed to multilevel marketing either directly or indirectly and have been forming opinions about it. Network Marketing is not for everyone and by no means will everyone succeed just like in any other business. All I can ask of everyone is to at least get the facts before you form a concrete opinion about any multilevel marketing company and/or the mlm industry as a whole. Use caution and don’t ever jump in blindly; you still need to make sure it is a legitimate company, but please don’t form opinions before you do the research.
Multilevel marketing is neither good nor bad. Unfortunately, people label it one way or the other depending on whether or not they made money, which albeit understandable, is not very rational.
Why Pursue MLM?

The terms MLM, multi-level marketing, networking marketing, etc., will almost always evoke a passionate reaction from anyone who knows business. Perhaps the person has had experience with MLM in the past or simply just heard of one of the many MLM companies that are out there. If you have ever been the person who started the converstation on MLM you most likely were asked something along the lines of “Why did you go and get involved in one of those things?”
So why did you? Why would anybody go and get involved in one of those things?
I’m glad you asked. Let me approach this as if I’m telling someone who maybe would like to become involved in MLM but can’t really find the why. And if you are already in and you know this stuff, I’ll just remind you.
Many of us do not have jobs that we absolutely love. If we were offered the chance, we would probably quit right now except for the minor detail of not getting paid anymore. But what if you decided to quit your job and for the rest of your life your boss forgot that you quit and he kept paying you? Essentially, that is what can happen in network marketing. No one wants to be at a desk their whole career. We want to get out there and make things happen while doing what we want to do, not what our boss tells us to do.
MLM can be extremely lucrative if you are serious about it and in it for the long haul. I’m probably not the only one out there who thinks that there are too many other worries in life and that money should not be one of them. Will it buy happiness? Probably not, but we all want to experience it for ourselves just to make sure.
Maybe a little less apparent is the personal growth you will experience in multi-level marketing. As in all businesses, there are frustrations and setbacks, but no one ever achieved greatness by isolating himself/herself in their corner cubicle while avoiding as many people as possible. We all tend to stress over the setbacks, but I look at it this way: that person who’s making a lot more money that I am has probably also experienced a lot more grief than I have, but look at where they are now!
So why do we pursue MLM? You may have your own reasons, but personal and financial freedom, along with growth potential, are right up there at the top of my list.
