Work Is The Reality In An MLM Business
Filed Under General MLM | Leave a Comment
This may sound fairly obvious if you’ve read the posts that we have done up until now, but I still very often hear the phrase “get rich quick” associated with very reputable multi level marketing companies. This is clearly stems from a misunderstanding because a good MLM company can never be get rich quick.
Get rich quick is commonly known as a company that promises fast results with very little or no work. Many times these companies tell their new distributors that all they have to do is go get all of their friends to attend a meeting and sign up. If they do, they get a check and supposedly everyone is happy. A problem is that this scenario is walking the fine line into pyramid scheme territory.
If you are new to MLM, don’t let anyone ever convice you that it will be easy to reach the top position. It is possible and likely if you have drive, but it’s never easy. Our industry is misunderstood by many who believe that MLM companies have some pre-established heirarchy that make all the money as they get suckers to join their companies. Fact is that those who are at the top worked extremely hard to get there.
In MLM, we have to put ourselves out there if we want success. We have to call a lot of people. We have to talk to everyone. We have to organize meetings and present them well. Our lack of knowledge goes noticed by everyone who is looking at the business for the first time. We have to be consistent in attending company trainings any other kinds of events our company holds. This shows our commitment to the business and also can serve as a time to network. Simply put, we cannot be sitting at home waiting for the checks to start rolling in. We must be proactive and we must WORK!
MLM Distributors Need More Training

One of the biggest complaints I hear from people who dislike network marketing (and believe me when I say I hear a lot of complaints because I am from Utah, the MLM Capital of the world) is that Network Marketers are overly pushy and they don’t know when to stop inviting/bugging their friends and family.
No one likes to be pushed into doing something. Think about it–do you know anyone who enjoys talking to car a salesman? I don’t. And from this we can conclude that it is important for network marketers to know when to move on in there recruiting efforts to others.
The problem lies in the lack of training of all the mlm recruiters/distributors out there. Most don’t realize that most people they talk to won’t join there business and that there is a time when you have to let someone go and move on to the next person. As Kim Klaver puts it, “don’t waste time going after the ‘pukies’ or the ‘forever maybes’”.
This is a call to all Network Marketers out there:
You need to receive proper training on how to recruit distributors and acquire customers if you are going to achieve LONG-TERM success.
Professional Inviter is the best training that I know of on the market. The author/creator, Tim Sales, is a highly successful network marketer, a master of his trade and therefore, a great teacher.

How Credible Are MLM Business Opportunities?
Filed Under General MLM | 1 Comment
How someone answers this question usually will have to do with that person’s experience with MLM in the past. And since many people who have had a negative experience always tell everyone they know, and the story gets more far-fetched every time, soon there are many people who form judgements based on someone else’s past experiences.Let me then step back from biases and attempt to explain why network marketing is a credible business.
In MLM, we market products. That is naturally required in legitimate business, so I must point it out. We also advertise. We might use our mouths to do it, but the mouth is a very powerful form of advertising. Legitimate businesses know they have an obligation to advertise, and they do it, so MLM is right there also. We make money in MLM - many MLMers make LOTS of money. That’s perfectly natural for a credible business, and we have it. We also network in MLM, as does every other business out there who is worth something. It just so happens that in our business, if we don’t network, we don’t have business at all. You know, we even dress professionally in MLM, which in many people’s minds adds credibility to our business.
So why then is the credibility of MLM so often doubted? Could it be because sometimes we are extremely excited about what we are doing, and that shows in our home meetings and our larger meetings? That might be it, because how many other people are as excited about what they do as we are about what we do? I don’t know many. Some who are accustomed to sitting in their cubicles while staring at their computers until their head smacks the keyboard might think our way of doing business is a bit unusual, maybe even cheesy, but hey, at least it keeps us awake.
Perhaps the stigma stems from people who listen to other people when they really should be finding out things for themselves. It’s easy to judge something if you haven’t experienced it. For those of us who know that MLM is a perfectly credible business, those who say it isn’t should be of no concern to us. We worry about putting people in front of the opportunity and letting them make a decision for themselves.
So I guess I ended this post more biased than I tried to be when I started, but only because I truly believe that our business is the greatest and it’s credibility should never be questioned.
MLM Success Depends On You, Not Your Upline Sponsor

Today I was thinking about something I read once in a Mark Yarnell book. It is excellent information for those who are starting out in MLM or those who have become a little complacent in their efforts.
In network marketing, YOU have to take the initiative and make things happen. Others, such as your upline, will not do it all for you. They want you to figure things out so that you can teach your downline the same things.
Mark Yarnell illustrated this point by first noting how many of us believe that we can put a prospect in front of an upline expert and things will then work themselves out. This rarely or never works. We must take our recruit and guide them through the initial process of starting out their business. They must know and see that they can rely on us. If that’s all they see, then chances are they will become the same kind of upline expert when they have a downline.
Imagine if you called a friend to tell them about a movie you just saw. You call them and say how much you loved it and that you have another person on the line to tell them what the movie is about. Your friend says “but I don’t want to hear about the movie from someone I don’t even know. I want to hear what you thought about it.” This is the same as when we call a potential prospect and then push them in front up an upline expert thinking that everything will be taken care of. You have to take an interest in your recruits success.
Your upline sponsor has their role in ensuring your success, but that role is not to babysit you. That means that we as independent representatives must go out on our own sometimes and get things done.
Best MLM Training Sometimes Is No Training!

Now before you respond with a mean comment let me explain myself. By the way, I do want to hear your comments on this.
The best mlm training is sometimes no training at all. What I mean by this is sometimes we find ourselves stuck in the “must acquire more information/training” mode. This is bad if it hinders us from actually applying what we have learned.
KNOWLEDGE WITHOUT ACTION IS JUST KNOWLEDGE!
If there is no output or use of the knowledge then you will not succeed in mlm or any other endeavor. As Rich Schefren coined it, “Decrease The Input… Increase The Output”. *Rich Schefren is the master mind behind Strategic Profits.
Now, you may respond by saying, “I agree with you, BUT…action without knowledge may sometimes feel like running around like a chicken with its head cut off.” Point taken. Although– unguided action is better than no action at all.
That being said, you have to find a balance between input (acquiring knowledge and training) and output (applying the mlm training tips and strategies of recruiting downline distributors and of acquiring customers). Set aside at least the same amount of time each week, if not more, on the “doing” rather than the “learning”.
This habit will help your business more than anything and will funnel down through your downline distributors. When your downline is working just as hard as you, then growing your mlm business becomes fun!
If You Desire Multi-level Marketing Success, Work The Business Or The Business Won’t Work

When I say work the business, I mean taking a proactive part in developing your downline and marketing your product.
MLM businesses don’t work themselves, even when you’ve developed a large downline. I think that many of us see visions of grandeur and become tempted to sit back and watch it grow. This can’t happen if you want to achieve maximum growth.
Remembering that you are looked up to by those in you downline, you must be actively engaged in all aspects of the business. Planning home meetings, learning about your product and compensation plan, perfecting recruiting techniques - these are all things that no one of us must ever outgrow. Complacency and productivity do not mix.
I believe that success will follow those who are in it for the long haul. That means those who are not just in, but active. If you don’t work the business every day, then before you know it, your business will have stopped working.
You Might Actually Need The Business Opportunity Hype
Filed Under General MLM | Leave a Comment
One of the things in network marketing that sometimes makes people cringe is the amount of excitement (or hype, as some might call it) that is such a fundamental part of the opportunity. You may like it or you may not, but in most MLM businesses, it’s there to stay.
I was one of those who looked down upon so much excitement until I discovered what an important part of the business it really is. Here’s what I discovered.
No matter who you are, your business experiences ups and downs. The highs can be very high, but the lows can be extremely low. I think that for most people, this is magnified in network marketing. There are few things more fulfilling than recruting someone and seeing them hit their first position or make their first substantial check. Yet who hasn’t experienced that same rep bail out a week later because one of thier friends convinced them that they could never make it. It’s frustrating and disheartening!
Here’s where the oppurtunity meeting comes in. You attend the next week, and afterwards you are invigorated, re-energized, and hopeful about your prospects. Where many people would have quit the business, you decided to attend one more weekly meeting and it is a good thing you did because you left there with a new vision.
I create this scenario not out of fantasy, but because this sort of thing happens to me and my acquaintances all of the time. We have grown to love the upbeat music, the clapping, the exciting presentations, and the recognition that accompany the meetings because that’s what MLM is all about! It’s natural to think that all of that is cheesy when you are just starting in the business, but I challenge you to give it a chance - your business will thank you for it.
And when you have a huge team that goes with you to all the the meetings, whether locally or nationally, they will see the excitement that you show towards the business and they hopefull want to emulate that. People usually do what the money-makers are doing, right?
Network Marketing Capital - Utah
Filed Under General MLM | 2 Comments
Where would you say the most people per capita are involved in some type of Network Marketing company? I submit that Utah would be the winner of that contest. Some would say my answer is somewhat biased (and it is) because I am from and currently reside in Utah, but let me explain my answer.
I have been contacted by acquaintances and in some cases complete strangers about many mlm companies in the last five years. Here is a list of every company that I can remember off the top of my head from which a distributor/representative tried to pique my interest:
- Prepaid Legal
- ACN
- USANA
- Xango
- Tahition Noni
- Quixstar
- Primerica
- WFG
- Excel
- And at least one other that I cant remember the name
Let me add to this list companies that one of my friends or a member of my family have been introduced to:
- Melaleuca
- Amway
- NuSkin
- Neways
- Nikken
- Pampered Chef
- Mary Kay
Interestingly enough, a handful of these network marketing companies are headquartered in Utah, so you make the call. Let us know if you think the people of your state are more involved in network marketing/mlm more than Utahns.
Choosing The Right Multi Level Marketing Business Opportunity
Filed Under General MLM | Leave a Comment
Have you ever jumped into a pool without checking to see if there was water in there first? Hopefully not, but that is exactly what many people do when they join multi level marketing companies.
When I was looking into signing up as a representative for a specific multi level marketing company, I considered a few things but wish I would have known what to look for and what things would trigger red flags. I have compiled a list of things that you want to research before signing up with any mlm company: signup fees, the company’s track record, support from company and upline representatives, compensation plan, and demand for type of product or service.
Signup fees usually range from $100 to $500 with most multi level marketing companies. Obviously this is not a huge investment compared to starting a traditional business or franchise, but still needs some consideration. The get rich quick mentality plagues the multi level marketing industry which causes some to believe that just by signing up as a representative/distributor the money will begin to flow. That being said—don’t sign up unless you plan on WORKING HARD otherwise you might as well flush that money down the toilet. Also, find out what the annual recurring fees are for being a distributor; they do exist.
Pros and Cons exist for both start-up and more established companies. With start-up companies, the risk is greater in that the company may fail but the reward may possibly be greater because you would be in at the beginning and on top of all the potential growth of the company. The more established companies have a track record and are usually more stable and less prone to fold. The growth potential may not be as high as start-ups but generally speaking, there is always more room for growth.
Pay attention to the support that is given to individual representatives not only from the company as a whole, but from your potential upline. (Upline is defined as the people above you who are trying to recruit you into the business and will benefit from any sales that you generate.) Company headquarters should have regular trainings that–well, TRAIN. Hype is good only to an extent; training on how to acquire customers, recruit representatives to be in your downline, and how to train your new recruits to do what you are doing, is crucial for your success. Your upline should help you to launch your new multi level marketing business opportunity and should be there for support when needed. Their success depends partly on your success, so normally they will be more than willing to help. The key is to sign up under someone who is treating the opportunity as a business rather than a get rich quick scheme.
Study the compensation plan for your business and make sure you know exactly how and when you get paid. A lot of money can be made in multi level marketing but understand the big money is made when you know the compensation plan forwards and backwards and follow that plan to the “T”. The most important aspect to look for in a multi level marketing compensation plan is to make sure that no money is paid out UNLESS a customer is acquired to use the service, widget, or doodad that is marketed. No money should ever be paid out just for recruiting representatives; this creates an atmosphere of recruiters recruiting recruiters not focused on selling any products. On the other hand, if a bonus is paid out for when the newly recruited representative acquires customers, all is well.
Lastly, make sure there is a demand for the product or service that the multi level marketing company offers. Low demand is not usually a problem because most companies don’t try to market something that won’t sell. But keep in mind, a lot of multi level marketing companies market new breakthrough products where the demand needs to be created and can be a more difficult atmosphere to succeed.
To wrap up, do your homework to be able to make a more informed decision. Even if success doesn’t come as soon as you would have liked or not at all, you can rest easy at night knowing that you made the best decision you could have made with the knowledge you had at the time. But remember, knowledge is only half the battle, so ACT and PERSIST!
Dave Stone posted a list of questions that you should consider when doing due dilligence regarding a company on his blog. He borrowed the list from the book “Network Marketing For Dummies.”
When Searching For An MLM Business Opportunity, You’ll Find What You Are Looking For
Filed Under General MLM | Leave a Comment
The title to this post might be a bit confusing, so let me explain myself.
I once confided to someone that I was thinking of becoming involved in a business opportunity. This person looked at me and said cautiously, “I don’t know if you should do it. I’ve heard some pretty negative things about that company.” This person came to me a day later and told me that he was in fact right, and he had done a search on the web for all the negative things he could find about my potential oppurtunity.
I thanked him for doing so much in depth research on my behalf, but told him I would be able to make a decision for myself. So I then went on the web and did a search of my own. I tried to find all the good things I could about this company. Hardly to my surprise, I found a wealth of information from people who had gone before me and had experienced incredible success in thier businesses. So what was the lesson I drew from this?
I concluded that no matter what multi-level marketing opportunity you decide to pursue, you will soon find out that there are many positive and many negative things to be said about that company. But it’s what you are looking for that counts.
I could find out something negative about any company in the world, including all the multi-billion dollar giants out there. Should that dissuade me from pursuing the business? If the negative information has been published by people who really know, meaning the Better Business Bureau or an attorney general, for example, then yes there really might be something to watch out for. But if all the mudslinging comes from some wierdo out there who tried the business and failed, you can probably take it with a grain of salt. IGNORE IT.
If you are reading this, I’m assuming you are a builder personality and not a destroyer. If so, you know exactly what I’m talking about. The builders will look for positive qualities of a company, while the destroyers will find anything negative and then spread that negativity to their friends, family, and acquaintances, just like a germ or a virus.
So anyway, you’ll find the kind of information that you are looking for. I just hope we all are looking for something good and not letting the germs out there pursuade us otherwise.
