Network marketing is just another term for multilevel marketing. This is a type of business with a multi-level sales force. Each distributor/representative can sell the products or services of the company to the end user and recruit and train other distributors to do the same thing as well.
This creates the so-called levels of the sales force and is the reason why sometimes it is referred to as a pyramid.
