How Credible Are MLM Business Opportunities?

How someone answers this question usually will have to do with that person’s experience with MLM in the past. And since many people who have had a negative experience always tell everyone they know, and the story gets more far-fetched every time, soon there are many people who form judgements based on someone else’s past experiences.Let me then step back from biases and attempt to explain why network marketing is a credible business.
In MLM, we market products. That is naturally required in legitimate business, so I must point it out. We also advertise. We might use our mouths to do it, but the mouth is a very powerful form of advertising. Legitimate businesses know they have an obligation to advertise, and they do it, so MLM is right there also. We make money in MLM - many MLMers make LOTS of money. That’s perfectly natural for a credible business, and we have it. We also network in MLM, as does every other business out there who is worth something. It just so happens that in our business, if we don’t network, we don’t have business at all. You know, we even dress professionally in MLM, which in many people’s minds adds credibility to our business.
So why then is the credibility of MLM so often doubted? Could it be because sometimes we are extremely excited about what we are doing, and that shows in our home meetings and our larger meetings? That might be it, because how many other people are as excited about what they do as we are about what we do? I don’t know many. Some who are accustomed to sitting in their cubicles while staring at their computers until their head smacks the keyboard might think our way of doing business is a bit unusual, maybe even cheesy, but hey, at least it keeps us awake.
Perhaps the stigma stems from people who listen to other people when they really should be finding out things for themselves. It’s easy to judge something if you haven’t experienced it. For those of us who know that MLM is a perfectly credible business, those who say it isn’t should be of no concern to us. We worry about putting people in front of the opportunity and letting them make a decision for themselves.
So I guess I ended this post more biased than I tried to be when I started, but only because I truly believe that our business is the greatest and it’s credibility should never be questioned.
